FLOATING LADY (Rises to 2 metres in the air) In Melbourne this unit was used by me to float "The Virgin Mary" up in the air, in a Easter musical production, at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl for several consecutive years. This illusion makes use of existing stage curtains, ideally black or jazz patterned. In the case of the Myer Music Bowl I supplied the backdrop. The unit sits behind the curtains with the special harness protruding through to the audience side. The harness is hidden by a three sided covered frame made to look like a table of sorts (or Altar). Your assistant is 'hypnotised' and laid on the table (actually the harness). Magical gestures and she slowly rises up, the table is pulled away which accentuates the height to which she is floating. She rises up to 2 metres in the air caused by your assiatnt back stage winding a crank on the unit. Due to the "S" bend in the harness a genuine hoop is passed over the floating girl. The gearing is such that hardly any effort is needed to turn it and is engineered to provide extra smooth raising and lowering. The unit is quite heavy however, but I always managed to lift it into the boot of the car and with it sticking out the back, drive off to a gig.(when I was younger). Designed for the days when we had stages and curtains, I'd suggest to get most use out of it, you'd need to carry a small backdrop. Click HERE to view pictures. |
Good condition Includes enough black material to recover the harness and I will build a table (Altar)to go with it. Price $500 |

MELBOURNE ARTS CENTRE DOLLS HOUSE ILLUSION To our knowledge this is the only 'Dolls House' in the world built to look like the Melbourne Arts Centre. This was especially built for a Melbourne travel promotion and was taken to every State in Australia where it was performed for the travel industry representatives. It has also been used at Bar mitzvahs where the guest of honour was produced. The actual outside shape of the Arts Centre is oval so you can imagine the fun and cost of building an oval Dolls House illusion. With the resultant smaller door the presentation was changed with the magician holding a bright light with which to thrust through the door to prove nothing inside. Upon command the roof and spire burst open (actually the magician lifts the spire and roof off and over to the back) the girl or whoever you are producing just stands up. Spike Illusion Cabinet is on stage with a rack of spikes suspended by chain above it. Magician explains there are four ropes attached to the table, one near each corner. The chain holding the spikes is shown to be held by a peg fixed to a balancing arm. At the other end of the arm is a tray suspended by chains, above which sits a bottle of sand. By releasing the sand it will gradually fall into the tray and when sufficient has fallen the tray will pull the arm down releasing the chain allowing the spikes to come crashing down. This is demonstrated and the spikes crash down making a loud noise. The spikes are reset and member of the audience shown how to turn the sand on. The magician is now firmly tied by ankles and wrists to the table top face up. \ The spectator is asked to close the curtains all round and turn on the sand. After a shorter time than expected the spikes are heard to crash down. The front curtains are thrown open and the magician is discovered sitting on top of the rack of spikes having successfully escaped. Incidently the release of the spike rack is under the control of the magician at all times, and does not rely on the apparent weight of the sand. Click HERE to view pictures. |
